"Furoshiki" 0003 Japanese antique cloth Cotton Indigo dye

It is a cotton cloth made by hand weaving about 280 years ago.
Dyeing is Kyoto. The weave is Niigata.
It has been carefully stored for generations, so it is so beautiful that you will not feel the passage of time.
From the Edo period to the Meiji period, a lot of indigo was used for dyeing in Japan.
Indigo dyeing was well dyed on any fabric and was able to express the characteristic blue of cotton, silk and linen.
Among them, it goes well with cotton, and at that time (Edo-Meiji period), cotton became popular as clothing for the common people.
Indigo has various effects such as increasing the strength of the fabric by dyeing with indigo, making it difficult for insects to attach, and having a bactericidal effect.
Therefore, indigo dyeing is applied to everything in daily life, such as "stray clothes", "night clothes", gloves and foot pads worn during farm work, as well as "futon skin", "furoshiki", "noren" and "mono oil". It came to be used.
Aizen blue is sometimes called Japan blue.
British chemist Robert William Atkinson, who came to Japan in the early Meiji era, praised the indigo color found throughout the town as "Japan Blue".
