This is a lidded bowl for simmering dishes.
The bowl is adorned with multiple layers of lacquer and a maple leaf pattern.
In southern Niigata Prefecture, it was used to serve local dishes such as Noppe and Oumi, which are made on holidays.
Therefore, the bowl itself is sometimes called "Oumi-bachi" in the local dialect.
