A large simmering bowl from the Meiji period.
The lid has a picture of people enjoying sake on board, making it an impressive interior item.
In the southern part of Niigata Prefecture, it was used as a container for local dishes such as Noppe and Oumi, which were prepared at celebrations.
Therefore, in dialect, this vessel itself is sometimes called the ocean (large sea bowl).
